CODA GALLERY Opens Two Exhibitions:
MIGUEL EDWARDS, Sculptor
NATHIE KATZOFF, Glass Muralist
ART WALK EL PASEO, Friday, Nov 4, 2022, 4-7 PM

PALM DESERT, CA – (October 15, 2022) – Art Lovers are cordially invited to meet the artists Miguel Edwards and Nathie Katzoff at an opening reception on Friday, November 4, from 4 to 7 pm, at CODA Gallery. Both exhibitions continue until November 18.

Miguel Edwards began his career in art as a photographer in Seattle. Originally from New Mexico, he captured the ‘90s grunge music scene for KEXP radio and Billboard Magazine, explored the Seattle art scene for City Arts magazine, and delved into many, varied projects in photography and film. His work is also commissioned by Microsoft, Boeing and other Fortune 500 companies.

The spark for Miguel’s work as a sculptor in steel and glass came in 2004, when he was commissioned to create a steel sphere for Burning Man. By 2009, that spark had grown to a fire that would shift the course of his career. Now Miguel works in both photography and sculpture, and the two art forms interplay in his work. In addition to his many private collectors, Miguel’s public installations include “Hope Rising,” a cauldron of fire for the 50th anniversary of the Special Olympics, “Relativity Clock,” an interactive sculpture in Redmond, and “El Sole: Elevate,” a sphere rising 20 feet in downtown Seattle.

Nathie Katzoff is a contemporary artist from Seattle who is moved to work in a variety of mediums: wood, glass, metals, and paint. His art celebrates nature in both its calm tranquility and fierce destruction. He is internationally known for his art stairs and large-scale architectural sculpture. His abstract glass murals, made of fused glasses and glazes, bring sculptural depth to wall-mounted pieces so that their surfaces undulate and ripple like solidified lava – a function of the fluid nature of the casting and fusing processes.

Raised in New England, Nathie received an alternative education devoted to freedom, self-expression, and the arts, and is honored to count Allen Ginsberg as a not-too-distant relative. The Beatnik philosophy is present in his fervent dedication to self-expression in his own life. In 2011, Nathie founded NK Woodworking and Design, an art-based woodworking company that does installations all over the world; and in 2021, he opened a gallery in Seattle to showcase his glass murals and other work.

CODA exhibition openings take place during Palm Desert’s ArtWalk, a self-guided tour of the various art galleries on El Paseo on the first Friday of the month, November through May, from 4 to 7 pm. A wine bar featuring organic wines and other beverages will benefit Animal Samaritans. A percentage of the evening’s art sales will be donated to support Animal Samaritan’s capital campaign for the construction of their new Pet Adoption & Humane Education Center in Thousand Palms.

A landmark on El Paseo since 1987, CODA Gallery has resonated with contemporary art collectors for 35 years. Located at 73400 El Paseo (at Lupine Lane), gallery hours are Monday through Saturday from 10 am to 6 pm and Sunday from 11 am to 5 pm.
