CODA GALLERY WELCOMES NEW ARTISTS
NOVEMBER 1 – 22, 2019

PALM DESERT, CA — In its first exhibition of the season, CODA Gallery presents a group show exhibiting the work of artists that are new to the gallery.  The exhibition begins with an opening reception on November 1 from 5-8 pm, in conjunction with El Paseo Art Walk/Palm Desert First Weekend, and continues through November 22.

Miguel Edwards will be among the artists in attendance.  A sculptor who recently relocated his studio from Seattle to Bend, Oregon, Edwards creates graceful outdoor and indoor pieces, mainly from steel.  Miguel’s many public installations include “Hope Rising,” a 13-foot stainless steel cauldron which was lit at the Opening Ceremony for the 2018 Special Olympics USA Games in Seattle as well as a new monumental work, "Clock of Relativity," for the City of Redmond, Oregon.

Kathleen Hope is a mixed media artist who has chosen cement as her primary medium. Hope has developed many types of cement mixes, each with its own special purpose, which she combines with many diverse materials to create the textural layered effect of her organic abstracts.  With her studio in Fountain Hills, Arizona, Kathleen will be attending the opening.

Milo Redwood is a painter, and philosopher. “They are silent songs,” Redwood says of his abstracts. “Honestly it sounds weird, but I think they are mostly musical.” With his studio in Port Townsend, Washington, Redwood is a prolific painter whose paintings have begun to attract the attention of stars in the music industry through his partnership with Wyeth “B” Barclay, performer and record industry producer, who will be present at the opening.

Ken Orton is a figurative painter, known for his photorealistic paintings of glass bottles.  Born in England and a graduate of Birmingham and Manchester Colleges of Art, Ken moved to New York in 1993.  When he bought a house in the Catskills, he found cases of pristine mason jars in the cellar. “After studying them for some days I began to see that this was a quite remarkable subject. Through painting glass I have exposed an endless path of discoveries.”

Ali Launer creates beaded skull art using a fabulous combination of luxurious precious, semiprecious stones, handmade Bali Sterling silver and glass seed beads.  A skilled artisan, Launer’s skulls have been exhibited throughout the US, and she has received national coverage for her fashion and design work by In Style and Vogue Magazines.  Ali lives and works in Corrales, New Mexico.

Reid Winfrey had his first gallery show in 1981, earned his MFA in Painting/Printmaking in 1985, and is currently a Professor of Digital Arts and Animation at Cogswell Polytechnical College in Sunnyvale, California.  Over his long career, Winfrey’s work has been exhibited in museums and galleries around the US.  His Sphere Paintings are mindfully created with “complete attention directed to each movement of the brush.”

CODA Gallery opened on El Paseo in 1987 and offers a thoughtfully-curated collection of work by emerging, mid-career, and established artists.
