Nuria Miro Biography

Nuria Miró was born in a region that is famous for its artistic heritage – Alcoy, Alicante, Spain in 1961. She studied at the School of Arts in her hometown, and later moved to the College of Fine Arts of San Carlos in Valencia, Spain. Her emotive artistic technique is clearly evident in her work.

She is well-known for her technicolor houses of Ibiza, a Spanish island off the Mediterranean coast. The island is famous for its clear waters, rocky shores, and hidden coves bathed by the sun. Ibiza recently became a popular tourist spot for the cultured elite, including a number of celebrities, athletes, and professionals. Though Ibiza thrives off of its expansive tourist industry, Nuria paints a vacated cluster of homes that evoke a quietude of place and time. The tourist spot not only offers a safe-haven of earthly delights, its Mediterranean beauty of shimmering light and the bright color palette speak to the artist’s soul.

Nuria is a talented, highly trained painter with sensitivity, emotion, and poetry reflected in her artwork. Her paintings are highly expressive with intentional brushstrokes, reflective of pristine colors and precise in line-work that coalesce to form a play of light and shadow in her condensed spaces. The compositions of each of her works are heightened by interesting new perspectives of the architectural landscape.

The architecture in her work in a key element, for it conveys the physical and metaphorical stability and structure of the Ibizan land. Each building is coated in sunlight, which appears from different angles in each piece capturing the natural Mediterranean light and expressing the passing of the time of day.

Her combined academic training and her intuitiveness of art present painting as effortless, with the consistency of her masterful drawing skills, dynamic perspectives, and loose brushwork. Her technique is deliberate and steady, as evidenced in her works.
