Matthew Carden is a California based artist who combines food with popular culture to create whimsical and otherworldly images. He is known as a pioneer in miniature photography, and an award-winning Food Photographer and Contemporary Artist with critical recognition internationally.
“He draws the viewer in deeper for a moment to reflect on the rich tapestry food weaves through our lives. His playful and creative scenes evoke the incredible richness, texture, and history of food with a contemporary twist.”
Growing up in Los Angeles in the ’70s and ’80s, Matthew was fed a hearty diet of popular culture. There was no shortage of toys, theme parks, museums, TV, and movies; where his work is often themed around popular American icons and imagery of that era. At an early age, Matthew followed his passion, developing his ability to capture this imaginative and colorful world with photography. He then attended the Pasadena Art Center and proceeded to graduate from the prestigious San Francisco Art Institute. His work is collected and shown internationally.
For over 20 years Matthew has exhibited his work while running an award-winning food photography studio with his wife, a Chef, and Author. Together they also own and operate a successful art gallery - Super Fresh Food Art Gallery - The world’s first contemporary art gallery dedicated to art about food.
