(American, b.1961)
Cary Henrie was born in Utah, in 1961. He moved to New York City to study at Pratt Institute, and remained in New York for ten years before heading out west to Bountiful, Utah. His journey and surroundings have come to play a major role in inspiring his paintings, as he uses the beauty of the natural landscapes around him as the subjects of his work.
I try to capture in my paintings a unique patina, an almost weather-beaten, windswept look. Texture and colors work together with hints of far off landscapes. Layers and layers of glazes, acrylics and oils create a depth of patina and color that shifts and resonates. I enjoy the many different directions and possibilities of my paintings and look forward to creating new and exciting work.
