An artist since childhood, Gary won awards for his work as early as age 17. He wanted to put his passion to work, so in 1975 he began studying design and illustration to pursue a career as a commercial artist. He started work at a leading Milwaukee design firm in 1978. After 11 years of refining his skills, he became principal of the firm, Goes Studio, which he continues to own and operate. Throughout the years, Gary continued to pursue his fine art and study the masters. His work is strongly influenced by Sargent. He enjoys the challenges of figurative work, focusing on color and composition rendered spontaneously to achieve romantic images.
That which lies within us must be recognized and explored. Painting offers a way for me to do that. Expressing the delicate beauty and romance of the world around us is the driving force behind my work. I strive to paint striking images that create a lasting impression and lingering feeling of warmth and peace.
