(American, b. 1957)
Ed Branson creates glass vessels distinguished by their elegant and fluid shapes. In his early days working with glass, Branson attended the esteemed Haystack Mountain School of Crafts in Maine, and prior to that, the Pilchuck School of Glass in Washington State. Before launching his career, Branson also spent time as an assistant to glass artist, Josh Simpson.
Since 1981, he’s worked professionally as a glass artist, and came to run his own studio by 1987.
Today, his work is included in galleries and collections across the globe.
Since 1982, glass has had a constant presence in my life. Our relationship has been enhanced and explored with some of the world’s glass masters, but predominantly my knowledge of this magic material is built on day-to-day experience and practice in my studio. This path has led me to a fairly simple artistic approach; trust the glass, have fun, accept mistakes, study nature and search for beautiful forms and colors inherent in glass’ personality.
