JAMIE PERRY
The Beauty of Simplicity
FEB 7 - 21, 2025
Opening Reception
Friday, Feb 7, 4 - 7pm
CODA Gallery is pleased to present "The Beauty of Simplicity," an exhibition of new paintings of celebrated artist, Jamie Perry. Come meet Jamie at an artist reception on Friday, February 7, 4 - 7 pm, during El Paseo's First Friday Art Walk.
If you sense a touch of Edward Hopper in Jamie Perry’s figurative paintings or Maynard Dixon in his landscapes, you’ve spotted two of his key influences. A Southern California native, Jamie draws inspiration from everyday observations, often noticing scenes while driving that spark ideas for paintings. Jamie enjoys turning ordinary scenes into thought-provoking or humorous works, such as a museum-goer asleep in front of a Jackson Pollock-style painting.
Jamie began his career in commercial art, creating illustrations for ads, but grew tired of constant revisions and transitioned to fine art, focusing on minimalist Midwest landscapes. Although he now lives in Colorado, his love for Midwestern settings reflects his minimalist aesthetic and nostalgia for the American dream. Many of his paintings feature faceless figures in suits, hats, or holding umbrellas, adding an air of mystery and a retro vibe, even in modern settings.
Before painting full-time, Jamie had a stint as a stuntman in Hollywood, but he eventually returned to his first love, art. His collectors include actors Paul Rudd, Kevin Nealon, the Boeing family, DuPont, and the Los Angeles Dodgers. For Jamie, the greatest reward is knowing his work becomes a focal point in someone’s home.
"Simple compositions and minimal, yet striking imagery are the main bodies of what my paintings are built on. I strive to make a statement, relying on the least amount of detail to tell the story, stripping down the painting to an almost composite abstraction, and then using light and space, focusing on one particular subject, to capture the viewer’s attention. Whether painting a lone farmhouse or barn, or Palm Springs mid-century modern home, my aim is to celebrate the often forgotten icons of Americana...symbols of American dreams and American lifestyles." -– Jamie Perry
During the reception, enjoy a wine bar featuring organic wines and other beverages, with proceeds benefiting Angel View, a Coachella Valley nonprofit dedicated to serving children and adults with disabilities. A portion of the evening’s art sales will be donated to support Angel View, founded in 1954 at a natural hot mineral water spring in Desert Hot Springs.
