MAY 5 - 29, 2023
Opening reception:  Friday, May 5, 4-7 pm

THE NEW MODERN is a group exhibition combining the SoCal-inspired paintings of Daniel Raynott, the geometric abstractions of Tricia Strickfaden, and the 3D wall mobiles of Mark Davis.

Inspired by an Alexander Calder mobile at age 14, Mark Davis began his career as a professional artist creating high-fashion, sculptural jewelry for clients such as Vogue magazine and prestigious department stores in New York City like Bloomingdale’s and Macy’s. In time, he reverted to his initial inspiration and passion: mobiles. “Now my work is more like a painting in space, where everything moves and, as it moves, the shapes and colors change."

Tricia Strickfaden worked in the interior design industry for many years, while continuing to evolve as an artist and build her following. She finds inspiration everywhere in nature, art, design, architecture and everyday life. As a former interior designer, she keeps up with leading-edge design trends and color palettes. Her personal taste in style and design has evolved over the years, which is reflected in the evolution of her paintings. LA’s hip, urban, yet fresh and casual lifestyle has a profound effect on this more modern series.

Born in France in 1962, Daniel Raynott currently lives and paints in Ireland. He started painting very early, visited museums around the world, and made it the basis of his learning. As a graphic designer in the 80s, Raynott collaborated with various French magazines. His paintings are executed with graphic precision; very clean, bright, and full of color. His frequent stays in the United States since the 90s, particularly in California, are the origin of his inspiration.

CODA exhibition openings take place during Palm Desert’s Art Walk, a self-guided tour of the various art galleries on El Paseo on the first Friday of the month, November through May, from 4 to 7 pm. A wine bar featuring organic wines and other beverages will benefit Animal Samaritans. A percentage of the evening’s art sales will be donated to support Animal Samaritan’s capital campaign for the construction of their new Pet Adoption & Humane Education Center in Thousand Palms.
